Hi folks,

This is just a quick shout to let anyone interested know that I have successfully entered the United States (at long, long last) and am currently settling into my new home in Pennsylvania. Hard to believe it's taken a year and a half to get to this point, but I'm glad the longest stretch is finally over. Now it's just a case of adjusting to American life and getting myself firmly embedded here (still have to upgrade my visa to a greencard, which should happen this coming week).

PC gaming is on hold for the moment, since I only have this crappy laptop (the same one I used to play WoW from over here back in February) - but I'm looking at a new Dell uber gaming rig so I can get back to some serious fragging in the not-too-distant future.

Anyway, thanks to all who gave encouragement during this difficult process!

Dell uber gaming rig.

Isn;t that a contradiction? Dell are well known for using the cheapest possible components including things that are out of date. (So bad in England that they are currently replacing alot of motherboards that are so dodgey that they are fixing them past their warentee date)

If you haven;t said yes yet you should think about going somewhere else.

But apart from that. Great to hear from you and I hope I'll see on online sometime soon.

Well, from my experience, Dell have been pretty good. I dealt with them professionally for many years (buying PCs for my former company) and their machines proved to be very robust (even the oldest ones lasted 5-6 years). For the last four years up to my departure from England, I'd been using a Dell Dimension 8300 for gaming and it had virtually no problems whatsoever and performed pretty well throughout (my graphics card has been the only real problem due to overheating). The only thing I really have to say about Dell that is particularly negative is their ultra-crap phone support people. Their onsite technicians, on the other hand, have constantly impressed me.

At any rate, I'll certainly be looking around at other brands - it all depends on what I can get for my money. Needless to say, I want one of those Geforce 8800s under the hood - from what I've seen of benchmark tests recently, they strip the hell out of their ATI counterparts.

Good to hear this Mo, its good to notice things are rolling your way now. Although "Now it's just a case of adjusting to American life" sounds a bit like an understatement ;).

Goodluck on everything that still has to be done.

P.S. Dell computers are very good. Ofcourse they got crappy low budget computers but they also got real pearls. For everyone that doesnt want to spend hours of building and tweaking their self build computers Dell is a damn fine solution.

If my experiences over there are anything to go by, speaking English in any accent other than Yank and people think you're French.

Glad to hear things are going your way Moander, heaps of luck over there.
